Health Advocacy 2005

The National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) set the following legislative priorities for 2005. These priorities will be carried over into the 2nd session of the 109th congress (2006). We will give an update on the DoD Appropriations when it is passed.

Priority #1
Guaranteed access to quality healthcare for all. We will not end breast cancer until all women have guaranteed access to quality healthcare regardless of ability to pay

Priority #2
150 million dollar appropriation for Department of Defense (DoD) peer-reviewed Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP) for fiscal year (FY) 2006.

Priority #3
Passage of legislation that would authorize funding for the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) to research data between breast cancer and the environment.

Priority #4
Preservation of the Medicaid Breast and Cervical Treatment Program

Priority # 5
Enactment of legislation to mandate registration of clinical trials

LABCA works with NBCC to educate state and federal congressional members on the issues surrounding breast cancer and these priorities. This contact is extremely important when health bills are presented and need support at all phases of the legislative process. Congresswoman Jane Harman shows her support.
